Membership

We are a friendly club and welcome new applications for membership regardless of ethnicity, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, status or disability except where the laws governing the possession or use of firearms would come into conflict.  All applicants are required to serve a six month probationary period.  Attendance at a specified number of events and venues is expected during probation, though there is flexibility with dates.  Sports Membership for practice of archery, air rifle and air pistol etc will be subject to a shorter probationary term. Applicants should note that under Home Office criteria for target clubs Tees Valley Target Sports must notify the police of new members and the police will notify the Club if they feel that a persons record or background would render them unsuitable to possess or handle firearms.

Section 21 of the Firearms Act 1968 prohibits a person from possession of any type of firearm (including air weapons) if they have been given a custodial sentence when convicted of a criminal offence.  Tees Valley Target Sports has an obligation to its members to protect its good name and to ensure the safety of the public therefore we will not normally accept persons as members who are clearly unsuitable to handle or be in possession of firearms.  We require that all applicants for membership disclose any conviction or current police investigation and failure to do so will invalidate your application.  If you have any convictions, or are currently under investigation by the police, you must complete the application form honestly in order to avoid subsequent embarrassment or possible prosecution under Section 21 of the Firearms Acts. In signing the application form you are declaring that you are not prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.

Please Note:  We have had over 150 enquiries for Sports membership (for air rifle/air/pistol & archery).  We obviously cannot handle such an influx of new members in one go, especially where the applicants have no previous experience and require training. For fairness, and in accordance with CASC guidelines, we are accepting new members in date order of application.  If you have emailed the club regarding membership then please be aware that we have your contact details and will contact you in due course.

NOTE: All enquiries about visits, prospective membership and attendance at open days should be made through the email address below.
